The final stretch of 2026 still holds some of the year's biggest game releases. From late September through December, franchises including Minecraft, Gears of War, Final Fantasy, World of Warcraft, Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter all have major releases or versions on the calendar.
For this list, Players Realm considered only games or major versions with officially announced release dates for the remainder of 2026. Release calendars can change, so the dates below reflect official information available as of September 27, 2026.

1. Minecraft Dungeons II — September 29
The late-2026 release rush effectively begins now. Minecraft Dungeons II launches September 29 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
The sequel expands the first game's action RPG and dungeon-crawling formula with new areas, enemies, equipment and a threat spanning two worlds. Players can tackle the adventure solo or in co-op with up to four players.
One of the biggest reasons to watch the sequel is The Sift, a new dimension appearing first in Minecraft Dungeons II ahead of its future arrival in the main Minecraft experience. That makes Dungeons II an unusually important release for the wider Minecraft universe.
2. Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve — October 2
Seven years after the previous mainline entry, Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve launches October 2 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Bandai Namco is promising aerial battles across environments featuring dynamic multi-layered clouds and a campaign set in 2029. Players inherit the name Wings of Theve and fight alongside three new comrades to reclaim an occupied homeland.
For aerial-combat fans, it is one of 2026's most significant franchise returns.
3. Gears of War: E-Day — October 6
Gears of War: E-Day returns to the moment that defined the entire franchise: Emergence Day, when the Locust Horde erupted from below and began its war against humanity.
Set 14 years before the original Gears of War, the story follows younger versions of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago. It launches October 6 for Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Beyond its campaign, E-Day includes co-op and multiplayer. Microsoft has also confirmed day-one availability for eligible Game Pass subscribers.
For Xbox, it is one of the most significant releases of the final months of 2026.
4. Final Fantasy Resonance — October 22
Final Fantasy Resonance arrives October 22 with a particularly interesting pitch for the franchise: it is the first Final Fantasy built around the HD-2D visual style.
The RPG brings back familiar series elements including crystals, airships, summons and turn-based combat while introducing Visions, echoes of familiar Final Fantasy characters that can fight alongside the party.
The game is confirmed for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Square Enix has also released a demo with save data that can carry over into the full game.
5. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort — October 22
Nintendo has a major first-party release of its own in October. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on October 22.
The game includes 12 motion-controlled sports, mixing returning activities such as Bowling and Basketball with options including Skateboarding, Power Cruising and Prop Plane.
Built around Joy-Con 2 controls and supporting both offline and online play, it is one of the Switch 2's most notable family-oriented releases for the end of the year.
6. Phantom Blade Zero — October 29
Phantom Blade Zero remains one of the biggest action games scheduled for 2026. After moving from its previous September date, S-GAME has officially scheduled the game for October 29.
The project blends wuxia, fantasy and folk horror with a martial-arts-focused combat system. S-GAME describes its distinctive identity as Kungfupunk.
Its visual presentation, fast combat and focus on kung fu-inspired movement have made Phantom Blade Zero one of the most closely watched action titles since its reveal.
7. World of Warcraft: Forever — November 4
November begins with one of the most significant World of Warcraft projects in recent years. WoW Forever launches globally on November 4.
Forever is designed as a permanent new home alongside modern WoW and Classic. It brings players back to a familiar but reimagined Azeroth, with progression to level 60 and room for new stories, experiences and updates over the years ahead.
Blizzard positions the project after Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom and before Molten Core. For veterans, returning players and newcomers, Forever could become one of WoW's biggest entry points in years.
8. Stellar Blade Complete Edition on Switch 2 — November 5
Stellar Blade is not a brand-new 2026 game, but its Nintendo Switch 2 arrival deserves attention. The Complete Edition launches for Nintendo's system on November 5.
The release brings EVE's adventure to Nintendo's portable hardware and includes additional content such as the NieR:Automata and GODDESS OF VICTORY: NIKKE collaborations. The edition also features new Bayonetta collaboration content.
For Switch 2, it is another important test of how games previously associated with more powerful hardware can translate to Nintendo's platform.
9. Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World — December 3
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World opens December with a confirmed December 3 release.
The adventure follows Bianca and Nera as they travel to the Kingdom of Witherwood searching for a cure for their ill fathers. Gameplay revolves around exploring, scouting monsters and synthesizing new creatures to build a party.
With Dragon Quest maintaining a major audience among Japanese RPG fans, The Withered World is one of the names to watch in December.
10. Rayman Legends Retold — December 3
Rayman also returns on December 3 with Rayman Legends Retold for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2.
Ubisoft describes the project as a reimagining of Rayman Legends with new visuals, a retold story, new musical stages and local co-op for up to four players.
The package also includes Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition, making it especially interesting for players who followed the franchise's modern era.
Bonus: Monster Hunter Wilds comes to Switch 2 on December 4
Monster Hunter Wilds is already available elsewhere, so it does not enter the main list as a brand-new game. Still, its Nintendo Switch 2 debut on December 4 is too significant to ignore.
Capcom has confirmed the Switch 2 edition as part of its multiplatform strategy. Wilds was also the first mainline Monster Hunter game to feature cross-play.
For the Switch 2 library, Monster Hunter Wilds closes 2026 with another major release.
What is the biggest game release of late 2026?
The final months of 2026 offer very different kinds of major releases. Gears of War: E-Day is one of Xbox's biggest bets, Phantom Blade Zero is aiming for a place among the year's standout action games, Final Fantasy Resonance revisits the series' roots through HD-2D, and WoW Forever is attempting to build a new permanent starting point for Azeroth.
Minecraft Dungeons II arrives first, while December closes the calendar with Dragon Quest Monsters, Rayman and Monster Hunter Wilds' Switch 2 debut.
