RELATED GAMEArkheronView coverage → Arkheron has entered one of its most important stages ahead of launch. Bonfire Studios opened the competitive PvP game's Crossplay Beta on Friday, September 25, allowing PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S players to enter the same matches for the first time.
The test runs throughout the weekend and ends September 27 at 11:59 PM PDT. North American queues opened at 6 PM EDT on Friday.
But there is more behind Arkheron's growing attention than crossplay. This is the first game from Bonfire Studios, the studio founded by Blizzard veteran Rob Pardo, best known for his work as lead designer on World of Warcraft and executive producer on Diablo III.
For players coming from WoW, Diablo and other competitive RPGs, Arkheron could be one of 2026's most interesting new projects to watch.

What is Arkheron?
Arkheron is a competitive isometric dark-fantasy PvP game where teams of three enter a mysterious Tower and continuously adapt their strategies while fighting rival teams.
Its biggest departure from many traditional competitive games is character building. Arkheron does not rely on conventional fixed classes. Instead, the items players collect during a match determine their abilities, combinations and playstyle.
Bonfire describes the philosophy with the idea that what you carry defines you. A build can therefore change during the match as players discover new equipment.
The resulting structure blends elements of ARPGs, loot-driven games, MOBAs and battle royales without fitting cleanly into any single genre.
Ascension puts 45 players inside the Tower
Arkheron's most ambitious mode is Ascension.
Fifteen teams of three enter each match, bringing the total to 45 players. Squads explore the Tower, collect items, develop their builds and fight rival teams while attempting to climb through its floors.
The ultimate objective is to survive the ascent and reach the decisive battle at the top.

During the Crossplay Beta, Ascension is available every night for at least three hours. In North America the queue begins at 7 PM EDT, in South America at 8 PM BRT, and in Europe at 6 PM BST and 7 PM CEST.
Bonfire says those queues may remain open longer when enough players are online.
Endless Spires offers 3v3 PvP throughout the beta
Players looking for more direct combat can jump into Endless Spires.
The mode functions as a 3v3 arena and remains available throughout the Crossplay Beta window. The focus is on smaller and faster engagements where players can experiment with different item combinations and builds.
Tutorials, a training room, bot modes and custom games are also available for players who want to learn Arkheron's mechanics before entering PvP.
Arkheron brings PC, PS5 and Xbox together
The central purpose of this test is to bring all three platforms into the same ecosystem.
Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S players can participate and play together. According to Bonfire Studios, this is the first public Arkheron test where Xbox, PlayStation and PC players enter the same matches.

The beta officially operates in North America, South America and Europe. Players elsewhere can switch their matchmaking region, although Bonfire warns that doing so may result in higher latency.
How to play the Arkheron beta
Players can request access through Arkheron's official website and select Xbox, PlayStation or Steam.
Bonfire is also providing some participants with additional invites that can be redeemed by friends on different platforms.
There is no content NDA for the test, allowing participants to share gameplay footage, videos and streams from the Crossplay Beta.
The World of Warcraft and Diablo connection
Arkheron has also attracted attention because of the people behind Bonfire Studios.
Rob Pardo spent years at Blizzard and played important roles on some of the company's biggest games. He served as lead designer on World of Warcraft, worked on Warcraft III and was executive producer on Diablo III.
Pardo founded Bonfire Studios in 2016, and Arkheron is the studio's first original IP.
In an interview published just before the beta, Pardo also discussed his history with Diablo III and the PvP experience that never arrived in the game as originally envisioned. Arkheron places competitive combat at the center of its own design.
That does not make Arkheron a successor to Diablo or World of Warcraft, but it helps explain why the project is attracting attention from players of those franchises.
When will Arkheron launch?
Bonfire Studios has not announced an exact release date.
The announced window points to 2026, but a specific date has not been confirmed.
Steam still lists the release date as 'To be announced'.
Bonfire has also previously confirmed that Arkheron will not be free-to-play. The game will launch with an upfront price, although pricing has not yet been announced.
With the Crossplay Beta putting PC and console players inside the Tower at the same time, this weekend represents an important test for Arkheron's unusual combination of PvP, loot and dynamic buildcrafting.
