RELATED GAMEDragon Ball: Sparking! ZEROView coverage → Dragon Ball Sparking Zero cross-play is finally on the schedule. To mark the game's second anniversary, Bandai Namco published a 2026-2027 roadmap that promises a cross-play beta after summer 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam, plus a new Tower of Power challenge mode, team battles and more paid fighters.
Cross-play has been one of the most requested features since launch, so this is the headline for anyone who struggles to find matches on their platform. The catch is the timing: it is a limited test, and it is still months away.

What the Sparking! ZERO roadmap includes
The official anniversary post from Bandai Namco lays out events, free updates, new modes and extra fighters across the rest of 2026 and into 2027. The publisher notes that content and timing vary by platform, so not every item lands everywhere at once.
Tower of Power
Tower of Power is a new challenge mode built around a climb of increasingly difficult fights against stronger enemies. Clearing it rewards Ki Aura customization items. It launches as a solo experience first, with team-up content planned later.
Team-up battles
A future Team-up mode will let groups of up to five players each control one character and face opponents in a series of one-on-one fights. It is a different take on the usual team battle, closer to a relay tournament between friends.
More modes and paid fighters
The roadmap also lists Mission 100 SP, Survival Mode SP, additional updates and new paid DLC with playable characters. No names, prices or dates were given for these yet.

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero cross-play: platforms and timing
According to Bandai Namco, the cross-play beta is planned to start after summer 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. It will be tested in a limited capacity first, and the official release details will come later.
Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 are not mentioned for cross-play. That matters because the Nintendo versions have been out since November 2025 and run on a separate player pool.
Bandai Namco has not said whether progress, rankings or lobbies will be shared during the test, or whether players will be able to opt out of cross-platform matches. Those details are expected when the beta is formally announced.
For PC and console players, a shared pool should mean faster matchmaking in ranked and casual online play and a longer life for the competitive scene. Until the beta starts, online play stays platform-locked.

Super Limit-Breaking NEO and the Switch versions
The Super Limit-Breaking NEO expansion, which adds fighters from several Dragon Ball eras and a solo mode, is already available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. On Steam it costs $34.99 on its own.
Coverage of the roadmap graphic by Nintendo Life places NEO on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 in spring 2027. Bandai Namco has not given an exact date for the Nintendo release yet.
Why it matters for players
Sparking! ZERO launched in October 2024 with more than 180 fighters and quickly became one of the best-selling Dragon Ball games. Two years in, recent Steam user reviews have dipped to Mixed, and a clear roadmap with cross-play is the kind of commitment that tends to bring lapsed players back.

What comes next
Expect Tower of Power to be the first item to arrive, followed by events and paid characters through 2027, with exact dates announced closer to each release. Cross-play remains the long-term target. For more games to play online with friends, see our list of the best online games to play in 2026.
