Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has pulled back the curtain on its campaign. Infinity Ward debuted a new story trailer during Tokyo Game Show 2026, putting Captain Price at the center of a conflict that combines a full-scale war on the Korean Peninsula with a much more personal battle unfolding in the shadows.

Following the events of Modern Warfare III, Price is on the run, Task Force 141 has been disbanded and even his former allies are beginning to question his methods. Meanwhile, North Korea launches a large-scale invasion of South Korea as a potentially catastrophic weapon enters the equation.

The result is a campaign built around two fronts: soldiers fighting to survive a conventional war and Price operating outside the system to uncover the forces behind it.

Captain Price is now the one being hunted

John Price's position has changed dramatically.

Following General Shepherd's assassination in Modern Warfare III, Task Force 141 has been dissolved and Price is operating as a fugitive. The new trailer also establishes growing tension among his former allies, with Ghost questioning Price's unlawful methods.

It puts one of Call of Duty's most recognizable characters in an unusual position. Rather than simply receiving another mission, Price is pursuing his own operation while staying ahead of the people hunting him.

Doing so will even force him into unlikely alliances with former enemies.

War erupts on the Korean Peninsula

While Price fights his personal war, another side of the campaign puts players directly into a much larger conflict.

The story follows a young squad of South Korean soldiers after North Korea launches a full-scale invasion of South Korea. One of the playable characters is Private First Class Park, a young soldier experiencing frontline combat for the first time alongside his squad.

Infinity Ward has already confirmed a broad range of campaign locations and scenarios, including trench warfare in Korea, close-quarters combat in New York, high-speed chases through Paris, SAS night raids in Mumbai and city-wide assaults to reclaim occupied territory.

That points toward a globetrotting campaign in classic Modern Warfare fashion, with the Korean Peninsula serving as the center of the larger conflict.

Archer and a new weapon connect both sides of the story

Connecting Price's shadow operation with the larger war is Archer, positioned as one of Modern Warfare 4's central threats.

The latest trailer points to a weapon capable of disrupting the global order if it falls into his hands. Price is attempting to reach the people behind the threat while the war in Korea continues to escalate.

That's where the campaign's two narratives begin to converge.

The Korean conflict isn't simply a backdrop, and Price's operation doesn't appear to be an unrelated side story. Everything revealed so far suggests those two fronts will eventually collide.

Modern Warfare 4 is going big with its campaign

Infinity Ward's earlier campaign reveal already suggested a larger conflict, but the TGS trailer makes that direction clearer.

Modern Warfare 4 combines Price's smaller covert operations with battles involving occupied cities and contested territory, creating room to move between tightly controlled infiltration sequences and large-scale military engagements.

For players following the rebooted Modern Warfare storyline since 2019, the game also has to deal with the consequences left behind by previous entries — particularly the fractured state of Task Force 141.

At the same time, Park and the South Korean storyline offer a different perspective through characters experiencing this war for the first time.

When does Modern Warfare 4 release?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches October 23, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2.

Eligible digital pre-orders include Campaign Early Access beginning October 16, giving players a full week to experience the story before the worldwide launch.

On PC, Modern Warfare 4 will be available through Battle.net, Xbox on PC and Steam. The Nintendo Switch 2 version is being developed natively by Infinity Ward in partnership with Digital Legends.

The game will also feature Multiplayer and a new DMZ experience set in the Hajin Exclusion Zone following the events of the campaign.

With just over a month remaining until launch, the TGS 2026 trailer finally gives players a clearer picture of the war Infinity Ward is building — and puts Captain Price in a very different position from the one fans are used to seeing.
