Sonic Racing CrossWorlds Year 2 starts on November 3, 2026, and SEGA is opening it with a permanent price cut: the Standard Edition drops from $69.99 to $39.99 and the Digital Deluxe Edition from $89.99 to $59.99. The roadmap mixes free racers like Bayonetta with six paid crossover packs, from Godzilla and Evangelion to Final Fantasy VII Remake and Persona.

The announcement also sparked a backlash from early buyers, who say the Digital Deluxe Edition was once advertised as including all future paid DLC. Here is what is free, what costs extra and why some players are upset.

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds Year 2 prices and editions

The new prices are already live on the official Steam store page (checked October 13, 2026). Alongside the cheaper base game, SEGA added two new ways to buy:

Season Pass Two ($29.99): includes all six Year 2 packs, a SEGA Controllers decal pack available now and a SEGA Consoles machine pack on November 3. Year Two Digital Deluxe Edition ($59.99): the base game plus Season Pass Two. SEGA warns that current owners should not buy it, since it includes another copy of the game.

For collectors, a physical Year One Edition at $59.99 bundles the game with the first Season Pass, a 35th anniversary reversible cover and a logo patch at select retailers. If you own both Season Passes, you also get Super Shadow and his Super Dark Flare machine on November 3.

Every Year 2 DLC pack and release window

SEGA lists six paid packs for Season Pass Two:

Godzilla Pack (November 3, 2026): a Godzilla Escape course inspired by Sonic Adventure 2's City Escape, plus Godzilla, King Ghidorah and Mothra machines. EVANGELION Pack (January 2027): Rei and Asuka as racers, a Tokyo-3 course and three EVA machines.

Virtual Sanrio Puroland Pack (Q2 2027): Hello Kitty and Kuromi with their own machines. SEGALAND Pack (Q3 2027): a course and machines themed around After Burner, OutRun and Super Megalo.

Midgar Pack (Q3 2027): content from the Final Fantasy VII Remake series. Reload Revival Royal Pack (Q4 2027): content from the Persona series. SEGA has not detailed the racers in these last two packs yet.

Free updates: Bayonetta, Duel Mode and more

Not everything costs money. Bayonetta joins for free on November 3 and is unlocked by winning Rival Duel matches. A free McLaren Racing machine and Sonic livery follow later in November, and Aigis from Persona 3 Reload arrives in early 2027. Each free character gets its own limited-time Festival event.

The biggest gameplay change is Duel Mode, a one-on-one format with a Duel Boost gauge that fills over time and with item use. It includes offline Rival Duels against CPU opponents, online matchmaking, limited-time best-of-10 events and friend matches. A Gadget System upgrade also adds a seventh "Super Slot" and 15 new gadgets.

Why Digital Deluxe owners are frustrated

The criticism centers on a June 2025 promotional post from the game's official account. It described the Digital Deluxe Edition as including the Season Pass, bonus characters and "all future paid downloadable content." With Season Pass Two now sold separately, some early buyers argue they should get Year 2 for free.

As reported by VGC on October 12, SEGA had not commented on the complaints. The original wording may have been written before any second year of DLC was planned, but until SEGA clarifies, Deluxe owners should expect to pay $29.99 for Season Pass Two.

What this means for players

For newcomers, this is the cheapest the game has been at full price, and the free Duel Mode and guest racers add value without extra spending. Existing players get a long content runway through the end of 2027, though the price of following every crossover keeps adding up.

The game is available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC. Looking for more games to play together? See our picks for the best co-op games to play with friends, or read about Castlevania: Belmont's Curse's reviews and release time.
