GTA 6 is entering the final stretch before release
After years of anticipation, Grand Theft Auto VI is getting closer. Rockstar Games has confirmed a November 19, 2026 release date, with the game currently announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The next Grand Theft Auto takes the series back to a modern-day Vice City, now part of the state of Leonida, with Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos at the center of a story involving crime, heists and a conspiracy stretching across the state.
In August 2026, Rockstar offered its most extensive look at the game yet with Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, a nearly 27-minute presentation captured entirely from the game running on PlayStation 5.
With the release date, protagonists, multiple locations and a growing cast now revealed, here's everything officially confirmed about GTA 6 so far.
When is GTA 6 coming out?
GTA 6 will be released on November 19, 2026.
That is the current official release date from Rockstar Games. When announcing the delay in November 2025, Rockstar said the additional time would help the studio finish the game with the level of polish it expects to deliver.
Pre-orders are already open, and players who purchase a digital version can begin pre-loading on November 12.
What platforms will GTA 6 be on?
The officially confirmed platforms are:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X
- Xbox Series S
Rockstar has not officially announced a PC version of GTA 6.
That does not mean GTA 6 will never come to PC. It simply means PC is not currently among the confirmed platforms.
Players Realm will track the PC question separately in our dedicated GTA 6 PC release guide.
Where does GTA 6 take place?
GTA 6 brings players back to Vice City, but the game extends far beyond the city itself.
The story takes place across Leonida, a fictional state inspired by Florida. Rockstar has described a setting that stretches from Vice City's neon-lit streets to several distinct areas around the state.
Confirmed locations include:
- Vice City
- Leonida Keys
- Grassrivers
- Port Gellhorn
- Ambrosia
- Mount Kalaga National Park
Official screenshots show environments ranging from dense urban streets and beaches to wetlands and more remote natural areas.
Vice City, then, is only one part of GTA 6's broader setting.
Vice City returns
One of Grand Theft Auto's most iconic locations returns in a modern form.
Rockstar's footage and screenshots showcase beaches, nightlife, hotels, skyscrapers, highways and residential areas, alongside a world heavily influenced by modern social media culture.
This time, however, Vice City sits within the much larger state of Leonida.

Who are Jason and Lucia?
At the heart of GTA 6 are Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.
The pair find themselves caught in something much bigger after a score goes wrong, leaving them in the middle of a criminal conspiracy across Leonida. Rockstar's official description makes it clear that their relationship and reliance on one another will be central to the story.
Jason Duval
Jason grew up around criminals and con artists. After spending time in the Army in an attempt to move past his troubled teenage years, he eventually found himself in the Keys working for local drug runners.
Rockstar portrays Jason as someone looking for an easier life, even as circumstances keep pulling him into increasingly difficult situations.
Meeting Lucia could change everything.
Lucia Caminos
Lucia has a complicated past of her own.
Her father taught her to fight from an early age, and fighting for her family eventually landed her in Leonida Penitentiary. After getting out, she is determined to make smarter moves and pursue a better life.
Rockstar also reveals that Lucia and her mother previously lived in Liberty City, creating another connection to Grand Theft Auto's wider universe.
Her partnership with Jason sits at the center of GTA 6's story.
Which other GTA 6 characters are confirmed?
Rockstar has already introduced a wider cast surrounding Jason and Lucia.
Confirmed characters include:
Cal Hampton — Jason's friend and another associate of Brian Heder, with a particular interest in conspiracy theories.
Boobie Ike — a well-known Vice City figure who turned his street background into businesses involving real estate, a club and a recording studio.
Dre'Quan Priest — an aspiring music mogul looking to grow Only Raw Records.
Real Dimez — Bae-Luxe and Roxy, a rap duo combining music with a relentless social media presence.
Raul Bautista — an experienced bank robber looking for people willing to take big risks for bigger rewards.
Brian Heder — a veteran smuggler in the Keys and one of Jason's connections to Leonida's criminal world.
Together, these characters suggest a story that will move through several sides of Leonida's criminal, business and entertainment scenes.
What do we know about GTA 6 gameplay?
Rockstar is positioning GTA 6 as its biggest and most immersive evolution of Grand Theft Auto yet.
The most substantial official look so far is Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, released on August 27, 2026.
According to Rockstar, the entire presentation was captured from in-game footage running on PlayStation 5.
GTA 6 is currently being promoted as a single-player experience, while the official material continues to showcase familiar Grand Theft Auto pillars such as open-world exploration, vehicles, crime and combat within a far more detailed Leonida. Rockstar has not publicly detailed every gameplay system, so features that have not been officially announced should still be treated as speculation.
That distinction matters. Trailer analysis, leaks and rumors may suggest additional mechanics, but at Players Realm we consider something confirmed only when Rockstar has officially shown or announced it.

Will GTA 6 have an online mode?
For now, Rockstar is officially promoting GTA 6 as a single-player experience.
The company has not yet detailed a GTA Online successor tied to the new game in the material used for this guide.
Any specific claims about player counts, progression, release timing or the structure of a future GTA 6 online experience should therefore be treated as unconfirmed until Rockstar announces more.
Is GTA 6 coming to PC?
A PC version has not been officially announced.
Rockstar's official website and store currently list PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for the November 19 launch.
Rockstar's history naturally fuels expectations of a later PC release, but precedent is not confirmation.
Players Realm will cover this question separately in a dedicated guide tracking official statements, Rockstar's release history and any future PC announcement.
Is GTA 6 available for pre-order?
Yes.
GTA 6 pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026, with Rockstar offering multiple purchase options including Standard and Ultimate editions.
Rockstar says pre-orders and purchases made before November 20 include the Vintage Vice City Pack.
Digital copies can also be pre-loaded beginning November 12.
What don't we know about GTA 6 yet?
Despite the growing amount of official information, several major questions remain.
Rockstar could still reveal more about specific gameplay systems, open-world activities and other features ahead of release.
A PC version also remains unannounced.
And while GTA Online has become a huge part of the franchise, Rockstar has yet to fully outline its online strategy for GTA 6.
With the release approaching, more details are likely to emerge.
Will GTA 6 be the biggest leap in the series?
Rockstar is certainly positioning it that way.
The August presentation was described by the company as a showcase of the series' biggest and most immersive evolution yet, with the footage captured entirely from the game running on PS5.
How large that leap actually is will only become clear once GTA 6 is in players' hands.
For now, what is confirmed is already substantial: two central protagonists, a modern Vice City, multiple regions across Leonida, a broad supporting cast and a release date that is finally approaching.
GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Players Realm will continue updating this guide as Rockstar reveals more information.
