It's one of the biggest questions surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI, and the answer currently requires a clear distinction between expectation and confirmation.
As of September 11, 2026, Rockstar Games has not announced GTA 6 for PC.
The officially confirmed platforms are:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X
- Xbox Series S
Both Rockstar's official GTA 6 website and its recently updated support page list only those platforms.
That means there is currently no PC release date, no official system requirements, no confirmed storefront and no announced PC version.
However, that does not mean the possibility should be dismissed.
Rockstar's recent history shows that some of its biggest games have arrived on PC after their console launches, which is why so many players expect GTA 6 to eventually follow the same path.
Has GTA 6 officially been announced for PC?
No.
Rockstar has confirmed that GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Those are also the only platforms currently available for pre-order.
So statements such as:
“GTA 6 PC launches in 2027”
or
“GTA 6 PC is coming six months later”
are not confirmed facts.
Any specific PC release date circulating today is speculation.
Why do so many players expect GTA 6 on PC?
The main reason is Rockstar's track record.
The company has previously released PC versions of major games after their console debuts.
Two examples matter most:
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Red Dead Redemption 2
That doesn't guarantee GTA 6 will follow the exact same strategy, but it makes a later PC release consistent with Rockstar's previous decisions.
How long did GTA 5 take to reach PC?
Grand Theft Auto V originally launched for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013.
The PC version arrived on April 14, 2015.
Rockstar's official PC launch announcement highlighted features including resolutions up to 4K and beyond, 60 fps support, extensive graphics settings and mouse-and-keyboard customization.
That puts roughly 19 months between GTA 5's original console launch and its PC release.
There is an important caveat, however.
GTA 5 also launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014 before reaching PC.
So GTA 5's timeline should not simply be copied and treated as a GTA 6 prediction.
What about Red Dead Redemption 2?
Red Dead Redemption 2 also followed a delayed PC release strategy.
The game launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 26, 2018.
Rockstar officially announced the PC edition in October 2019 and released it on November 5, 2019.
That was roughly one year after the console release.
The PC version also included specific technical and graphical enhancements, along with additional configuration options.
Again, there is a precedent.
But that precedent does not confirm GTA 6 will use the same timing.
Does Rockstar's history mean GTA 6 will definitely come to PC?
No.
Rockstar's history makes a future PC version plausible, but not confirmed.
We know that:
- GTA 5 is available on PC;
- Red Dead Redemption 2 is available on PC;
- GTA Online remains active on PC;
- Rockstar maintains its own PC launcher.
But none of those facts replace an official GTA 6 announcement.

When could GTA 6 come to PC?

Why might Rockstar launch GTA 6 on consoles first?
Rockstar has not publicly explained why GTA 6 is currently announced only for the listed console platforms.
That means we should not present any specific explanation as fact.
In general, bringing a large open-world game to the wide range of available PC hardware can require additional optimization and testing, but that is a general development consideration — not an official Rockstar explanation for GTA 6.
What we know is simply that the November 2026 launch is currently focused on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Does GTA 6 have PC system requirements?
No.
Because Rockstar has not announced a PC version, there are no official minimum or recommended specifications.
Any GTA 6 PC requirements circulating online today are speculative.
Rockstar has not confirmed:
- a minimum CPU;
- a minimum GPU;
- required RAM;
- PC storage requirements;
- DLSS, FSR or XeSS support;
- official PC frame-rate targets;
- official PC resolution targets.
Those details should only be treated as real once Rockstar publishes them.
Will GTA 6 be on Steam?
That has not been confirmed either.
Without an announced PC version, Rockstar has also not confirmed which storefronts could sell the game.
GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 are available through Rockstar's PC ecosystem and other stores, but that does not guarantee GTA 6 will use the same distribution strategy.
For now, Steam, Epic Games Store and the Rockstar Games Launcher are all unconfirmed for GTA 6.
Should PC players wait for GTA 6?
That depends on how you want to play.
If you want to experience GTA 6 at launch and already own a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, those are currently the only officially confirmed options for November 19, 2026.
For PC-only players, the choice is different.
At the moment, you can either:
- wait for an official Rockstar announcement;
- buy a supported console to play at launch.
The problem is that nobody officially knows how long a PC wait could be.
Buying hardware based on a rumored PC release date therefore carries obvious uncertainty.
What could a PC version improve?
Rockstar's previous PC releases provide useful context here.
When GTA 5 launched on PC, Rockstar added extensive graphics settings, higher-resolution support, 60 fps capability and PC-specific customization.
Red Dead Redemption 2 also introduced PC-specific graphical and technical enhancements.
