How much does Nintendo Switch 2 cost in 2026?
Beginning September 1, 2026, Nintendo increased the official U.S. MSRP of Nintendo Switch 2 to:
$499.99.
The system originally launched at $449.99 in June 2025. Nintendo cited changes in market conditions when announcing the $50 increase.
That distinction matters because many older guides still list $449.99 as the current price.
As of September 2026, $499.99 is Nintendo's current U.S. MSRP.

Yes, in compatible games.
The built-in display supports VRR and refresh rates up to 120 Hz, allowing supported games to run at up to 120 fps.
TV mode can also support up to 120 fps with compatible games and displays.
There is an important limitation:
4K output is capped at 60 fps.
Switch 2 therefore should not be advertised as a general-purpose “4K 120 fps” console.
Does Nintendo Switch 2 support 4K?
Yes, in TV mode.
When connected through its dock, Nintendo Switch 2 can output at resolutions up to 4K on compatible TVs.
That does not mean every game renders natively at 4K.
Actual resolution and performance depend on individual software.
What processor does Nintendo Switch 2 use?
Nintendo officially lists a custom NVIDIA processor as the Switch 2's CPU/GPU platform.
Nintendo's official technical specifications do not provide a conventional consumer-facing CPU or GPU model name.

The controllers now attach to the system using magnetic connectors rather than the rail mechanism used by the original Switch.
Each Joy-Con 2 can also be placed on a surface and used with mouse-style controls in compatible games.
The right controller also includes the new C Button, designed around GameChat.
What is GameChat?
GameChat is Nintendo Switch 2's integrated communication system.
Pressing the C Button lets players communicate while continuing to play.
The console includes a built-in microphone, so voice chat doesn't inherently require a headset.
Players can talk, share gameplay screens and connect a compatible USB-C camera for video chat.
Voice chats can support up to 12 people, while up to four participants can appear in video chat.
A Nintendo Switch Online membership is now required for GameChat because the original free-access period ended in March 2026.
Is Nintendo Switch 2 backward compatible?
Yes.
Nintendo Switch 2 can play compatible physical and digital Nintendo Switch games.
That makes an existing Switch library significantly more valuable for anyone upgrading.
There is a caveat: Nintendo says some Switch games may not be supported or fully compatible.

Yes.
Nintendo Switch Online continues on Nintendo Switch 2.
The service provides existing online functionality and is now also required for GameChat.
Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members can also access a Nintendo GameCube classics library on Switch 2.
What is GameShare?
GameShare allows compatible software to be shared with other players who don't own the game.
It expands the idea of local and shared multiplayer by allowing supported titles to provide temporary gameplay access to other compatible systems.
How long does the battery last?
Nintendo lists a 5,220 mAh lithium-ion battery with estimated battery life of approximately 2 to 6.5 hours, depending on software and usage conditions.
Switch 2's main upgrades are therefore centered more around performance, display quality and graphics capability than dramatic battery-life improvements.
How much does Nintendo Switch 2 weigh?
The system weighs approximately 1.18 lb with Joy-Con 2 attached, or about 535 grams.
Without the controllers, it weighs approximately 0.88 lb, or roughly 399 grams.
The larger display and more powerful hardware make Switch 2 a noticeably more substantial handheld than its predecessor.

For someone entering Nintendo's ecosystem today, Switch 2 is the hardware positioned for the company's future.
