RELATED GAMEDragon's Dogma 2View coverage → Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, the first story expansion for Capcom's 2024 action RPG, launches this Friday, October 9, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and, for the first time, Nintendo Switch 2. It sends players north to the new region of Norgan, adds 12 dungeon challenges and arrives alongside a Switch 2 bundle that includes the full game.
For fans, the name carries weight. Dark Arisen was also the title of the celebrated 2013 expansion for the first Dragon's Dogma, which added Bitterblack Isle and is still remembered as one of the best parts of that game.

Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen release date and platforms
Capcom set the launch for October 9, 2026 in its official announcement. On Steam, the expansion page currently lists October 8, most likely because of the unlock time in the Americas, so in some time zones the content may become available on the evening of the 8th.
How you get it depends on your platform. On PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, Dark Arisen is paid DLC for existing owners of Dragon's Dogma 2. On Switch 2, Capcom is only selling a single package that combines the base game and the expansion, marking the series' debut on Nintendo's new console.
Price: how much Dark Arisen costs
The standalone expansion costs $29.99 on Steam. The package that combines Dragon's Dogma 2 with the expansion costs $49.99, which makes it the cheapest way in for newcomers on PC and consoles, and the only option on Switch 2. Prices on PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store and Nintendo eShop may vary by region.

What the Dark Arisen expansion adds
The heart of the expansion is a new story set in Norgan, a region in the far north of the map. There, the Arisen teams up with Eir, a mysterious new character, to uncover the secrets of the Fallen Dragon, a creature that refuses to die.
Alongside the story, Capcom lists 12 Lost Rites dungeon challenges, powerful new weapons and skills unlocked through forgotten relics, and extra character customization options such as new hairstyles and tattoos. Hands-on previews have also pointed to new enemy types.
Free updates already changed the base game
Capcom says Dark Arisen was designed to make the game more accessible as well as bigger, and two free updates paved the way. The June update added the Eternal Ferrystone, a reusable fast-travel item that addresses one of the most common complaints about the original release, plus quality-of-life fixes. An August update improved frame rates and added more save slots. Both are available to all owners, whether or not they buy the expansion.

Why it matters for Capcom and for players
The Dragon's Dogma series has sold more than 14 million units since 2012 and is defined by its Pawn system, in which AI companions created by other players fight and act independently alongside you. Capcom has framed the Switch 2 release as part of its multi-platform strategy to widen that audience.
It also lands in a strong season for fantasy RPG players, just over a week after The Witcher 3 Remastered arrived as a free upgrade. For anyone who stopped playing Dragon's Dogma 2 because of slow travel or performance, the combination of free fixes and a new region is a natural moment to return.

Is Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen worth it?
Reviews of the expansion have not been published yet, so it is too early for a verdict. Previews from events such as Gamescom have been broadly encouraging, with most writers saying it doubles down on what fans loved about the base game, though several noted their sessions were too short to judge the full region.
If you already own the game, $29.99 for a new region and a dozen dungeon challenges is in line with Capcom's recent expansions. If you are new, the $49.99 bundle is the better deal. We will update this article with review scores once they are out. Meanwhile, check our list of PlayStation Plus games for October 2026 if you are looking for something to play before Friday.
