RELATED GAMEWitchbrookView coverage → The Witchbrook release date is finally official. Chucklefish and co-developer Robotality confirmed that the magical life sim launches on January 28, 2027, on PC (Steam), PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch.
The date arrived with a new trailer during Nintendo's Indie World showcase on October 28, and it ends one of the longest waits in indie gaming: the game was first teased in 2016. It also brings a surprise for PlayStation owners, since this is the first time a PS5 version has been confirmed.

Witchbrook release date and platforms
The official Witchbrook website now lists the launch as January 28, 2027, across six platforms:
- PC: Steam.
- PlayStation: PS5.
- Xbox: Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.
- Nintendo: Switch 2 and the original Switch.
Chucklefish has not announced a price or opened pre-orders yet, and there is no word on a physical edition. The game will support ten languages at launch, including English, French, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Korean and both Simplified and Traditional Chinese.
What is Witchbrook?
Witchbrook is a life sim with a magic school at its heart. You arrive in Mossport, a seaside town, as a new student at Witchbrook College, where you attend classes, complete assignments and sit exams on the way to graduation. Lessons cover potion brewing, rituals and astrology, and you can fly around town on a broom.
Outside the classroom, it plays like the genre's best-known games. Townsfolk follow their own daily routines, the seasons change the town, and you can make friends or pursue romance with datable characters. You also renovate a woodland cottage, tend a garden, customize your outfit and sell crafts at a Sunday market.

Witchbrook co-op: up to four players
You can play alone or bring up to three friends into online co-op, for a maximum of four players, with activities such as broom racing built for groups. Chucklefish has not detailed whether co-op will work across platforms, so do not count on crossplay until it is confirmed. On PC, the Steam listing points to modest hardware needs: Windows 10 64-bit, a quad-core processor, 8 GB of RAM, a DirectX 11 graphics card with 4 GB of VRAM and just 2 GB of storage.

Why Witchbrook took so long
Chucklefish, the publisher behind Stardew Valley's original release and the developer of Starbound, first teased Witchbrook in 2016. The game was later planned for winter 2025, but in October 2025 the studio pushed it into 2026, saying it needed more time to make sure the world felt rich, immersive and alive. The January 2027 date means it slipped once more, but this time with a specific day on the calendar.
The expanded platform list is the other big change. When the game was re-revealed in 2020, platforms were not locked in; launching simultaneously on Xbox, PlayStation and two generations of Nintendo hardware gives the life sim a much wider audience from day one.

What comes next
With three months to go, the remaining questions are the price, pre-orders and whether there will be a demo or physical edition. For Switch 2 owners, Witchbrook joins a growing list of cozy and indie releases; our roundup of the best Nintendo Switch 2 games is a good place to look while you wait. We will update this story when Chucklefish shares pricing or more details about co-op.
