Demand for World of Warcraft: Forever continues to surprise even Blizzard. After the problems and queues that accompanied the beta's opening, the developer has once again increased the test's population cap.

Holly Longdale, vice president and executive producer of World of Warcraft, confirmed on September 27 that the team had raised the WoW Forever beta population cap again.

Blizzard did not disclose the new player limit or publicly specify whether the latest increase applied to particular regions or the beta infrastructure more broadly.

WoW Forever had already pushed servers at beta launch

The latest increase is not Blizzard's first response to demand for the test. When the beta opened on September 17, members of the development team reported an exceptional number of players attempting to enter simultaneously.

Senior game producer Tom Ellis described the demand at launch as excessive for a beta while the team scaled various services. Associate production director Clayton Stone also said the number of people trying to enter was enormous and that Blizzard was repeatedly scaling capacity.

Senior game designer Josh Greenfield later described the activity as some of the most remarkable numbers he had seen during his 17 years at Blizzard.

The latest population-cap increase suggests that demand remains elevated more than a week after the servers opened.

What's available in the WoW Forever beta

Blizzard launched the beta with a level cap of 20 and plans to increase that cap to 30 later during testing.

Initial content includes the Skyborne race, the Zephras Isle starting experience, Hall of Thanes for levels 13 through 18 and Ruins of Lordaeron for levels 15 through 20.

Additional zones, dungeons and a new battleground will become available as testing continues.

Blizzard has also announced plans for a Server Slam during the beta. For several hours, the servers will open so anyone can access WoW Forever, although the company has not yet announced when that window will take place.

How long does the WoW Forever beta last?

The World of Warcraft: Forever beta remains available through October 21, 2026, the final full day of testing before Blizzard begins its last preparations for launch.

Players can opt in for a chance to receive an invitation. Blizzard also includes beta access with eligible WoW Forever digital bundles.

World of Warcraft: Forever is scheduled to launch on November 4, 2026.

Demand is an important early signal for WoW Forever

The capacity increase does not reveal how many people are actually playing the beta, so it should not be interpreted as an official player-count figure.

Still, repeatedly expanding infrastructure indicates that initial demand exceeded the capacity Blizzard had prepared for different stages of the test.

The next major stress test could come with the Server Slam. By temporarily removing the invitation or purchase barrier to beta access, Blizzard will have another opportunity to measure interest in WoW Forever before its November launch.
