Black Flag Resynced update 1.0.8 goes live on October 27 at 14:00 UTC (10 a.m. ET, 7 a.m. PT) on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. It adds the long-requested New Game+ mode, a brutal Nightmare difficulty, classic takedown animations and new hidden rewards.

It also matters for a different reason: Ubisoft calls 1.0.8 the last major content milestone for the remake. Smaller quality-of-life patches will continue, but this is the final big drop for Edward Kenway's revamped adventure.

How New Game+ works

New Game+ restarts the story from the beginning while keeping most of what you earned. Carried over: gear and tools, weapons, trinkets, Jackdaw and ship upgrades, pets, money and resources, outfits and visual customization, Hideout progression, Kenway Fleet progress, codex entries and store purchases.

What resets: story progress, active quests and quest items, map discovery and forts, which you have to retake. Officers also need to be recruited again, and Jackdaw and Hideout upgrades stay installed but only become accessible again as the story unlocks them.

You can go up to New Game+ 5, and each run adds another difficulty modifier. There is also a new NG+ currency, Escudos, which you spend at the General Store, plus fresh outfits, pet skins and trinkets tied to New Game+ progression.

Nightmare difficulty: what changes

Nightmare is open to everyone regardless of story progress, and Ubisoft says it can be set separately for combat, stealth, naval and activities. Turned on everywhere, it means:

  • Ground combat: enemies hit harder and more often, the parry window is shorter, the white glint warning on attacks is gone and the one-shot safety net is disabled.
  • Stealth: guards detect you much faster, investigate longer and can hear you moving quickly.
  • Naval: enemy ships deal more damage.
  • Activities: sharks hit harder, urchins and jellyfish deal double damage and oxygen runs out faster underwater.

Classic takedowns, hidden chests and bug fixes

Fans of the 2013 original get something back: takedown animations from the original game return, covering hidden blade, unarmed, single sword and gunblade kills, along with new double-takedown variations. They trigger randomly during play and cannot be assigned manually.

Ubisoft also hid six new community chests across the map, some with rewards players had asked for. The patch fixes a long list of issues too, including quest soft locks, a tavern game freeze, a permanent FOV change after Delirium, silent gunshots and a mouse-and-keyboard diving bug.

What it means for players

Black Flag Resynced launched on July 9, 2026 and sold more than 3 million copies in its first week, so a lot of players have already seen the credits. New Game+ and Nightmare give them a real reason to sail again, and the five NG+ tiers add a clear progression path for completionists.

As a reminder of what the remake already offers: led by Ubisoft Singapore on the latest Anvil engine, it was rebuilt from the ground up with reworked parkour and combat, recruitable officers, expanded underwater exploration, weather that affects sailing and new story content featuring Anne Bonny, Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet. With 1.0.8, that content package is now essentially complete.
