The Diablo 4 Season 16 PTR opens on October 27 at 10 a.m. PDT and runs until November 3 at 10 a.m. PST. The 3.3.0 Public Test Realm is PC-only and gives players a first hands-on look at the systems planned for the next season.

The headline additions are War Plans Tactics, a new seasonal tree called Tyrael's Boons and Horadric Items that bend Talisman set bonuses, alongside one of the broadest rounds of class changes in a while. Here is what is being tested and how to join.

Diablo 4 Season 16 PTR dates and how to join

According to Blizzard's official 3.3.0 PTR guide, joining takes a few steps in the Battle.net app:

Advertisement View official GAMIVO offer
  1. Select Diablo IV in your Games list.
  2. Open the game version dropdown above the Play button and choose Public Test Realm.
  3. Install, log in, pick a test server and create a new character. Use a Seasonal character to test the Season 16 content.

PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate members can also join by launching Battle.net through the Xbox app. A PTR vendor, Mrak, sits next to the main Waypoint in major cities and hands out boosts such as gold, materials, Masterworking resources and max Aspects, so you can test endgame builds right away.

War Plans Tactics and Tyrael's Boons

War Plans Tactics is a new meta progression system for both Seasonal and Eternal realms. Points earned from War Plans go into nodes that raise the odds of the activities and rewards you prefer, such as weapons, jewelry, gems, gold or Activity Keys. Putting at least one point into Helltides or Nightmare Dungeons unlocks Greater Helltides or Escalation Dungeons options.

Respeccing those nodes uses a new currency, Marks of Wisdom, earned by turning in completed War Plans. On the PTR it is capped at 20.

Tyrael's Boons is the season-themed tree, available to every Seasonal player without the Lord of Hatred expansion. It has four paths: Curious Addition (changes the Purveyor of Curiosities), Merchant of Mystery (a Torment-difficulty merchant selling caches for Forgotten Souls), Scent of Gold (more gold, experience and drops) and Trash for Treasure (cheaper Alchemist transmuting and a Greater Temper recipe). Seasonal Blessings also become a fixed set of five.

Horadric Items and the new lair boss

Horadric Items are new Legendaries with affixes that modify specific Talisman sets. Horadric jewelry adds one to a set's bonus count, so a single charm can switch on a 2-piece bonus, while Horadric armor and weapons add extra effects once you have at least a 2-piece bonus active, from skill ranks to bonus damage and defensive perks.

Endgame players also get a tougher fight: in Pandemonium's Dual Threat, the Fractured Reaper joins the Corrupted Reaper as a lair boss and their abilities combine.

Biggest class changes on the PTR

Every class is touched. Some of the most notable changes:

  • Barbarian: Double Swing damage per swing doubles from 75% to 150%, while War Cry gets diminishing returns capped at 15%.
  • Druid: Nature Magic and Shapeshifting tags are tied to base skills to curb tag stacking, and Grizzly Rage now grants 10 seconds of Immunity.
  • Necromancer: Bone Spear damage rises to 175%, Blood Orbs heal for 10% and now also heal Minions.
  • Paladin: Aura Potency now scales with Skill Ranks, and Zenith, Heaven's Fury, Zeal and Advance are reworked.
  • Sorcerer: Incinerate moves to a new Intensity system and Meteor's cooldown drops to 10 seconds.
  • Rogue, Spiritborn and Warlock: Shadow Imbuement reapplications now stack, Spiritborn's Stinger drops to 125% while Razor Wings rises to 160%, and Warlock gets a new Nether Step variant plus Soul Shard reworks.

Outside classes, Helltides will start on the hour in base game zones and at the 30-minute mark in expansion zones, Aberrant Cinders persist between Helltides and base mount speed goes up.

What comes next

Remember that PTR numbers are not final. Blizzard has not announced the Season 16 start date yet, and says some Season of Hell's Legacy features will carry into Season 16 with details coming separately. Feedback can be sent through the in-game Report a Bug menu or the PTR forums.
