Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.5 is official. CD Projekt Red confirmed on October 20 that the free Edgerunners 2 Update arrives this Thursday, October 22, on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, bringing cyberware customization, a brand-new dual-wielding playstyle and content inspired by the new anime season.

The timing is deliberate: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiered on Netflix the same day the patch was announced, with all ten episodes dropping at once. A Nintendo Switch 2 version of the update will follow a little later, and the studio will show the new features in action during a REDstreams broadcast on Wednesday.

What Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.5 adds

So far, CD Projekt Red has only revealed the headline features. The announcement on the official Cyberpunk website points to three main additions:

  • Cyberware customization: new options to shape V's implants, one of the core systems of the game's builds.
  • Dual-wielding: a new playstyle that, according to early reports, lets V fire two pistols at once.
  • Edgerunners 2 content: new items and features inspired by the second anime season.

Full patch notes are not out yet and are expected right after Wednesday's stream. The official artwork created for the update, which pairs V with a character from the new series, was drawn by Taisei Uchida, with ink and paint check by Yukiko Kakita and special effects by Yuichiro Tozawa.

Release date, platforms and REDstreams time

A follow-up to the original Edgerunners Update

This isn't the first time CD Projekt Red has used its anime to pull players back to Night City. In September 2022, just before the first season's Netflix debut, Patch 1.6 (the original Edgerunners Update) added gear straight from the show, including David Martinez's yellow jacket and Rebecca's shotgun, Guts, along with new gigs, weapons, a wardrobe system and extra Photo Mode options.

Edgerunners 2 is again a collaboration between CD Projekt Red and Studio Trigger, but it tells a standalone story about a new crew of mercenaries rather than continuing David's arc. That gives the studio a fresh cast, weapons and outfits to bring into the game, so expect at least some nods to the new episodes when the patch notes land.

Another "last" update that wasn't

Update 2.5 also extends one of the longest support runs among recent AAA games. After Update 2.0 and the Phantom Liberty expansion in September 2023, CD Projekt Red said major updates were done. Version 2.1 was billed as the last big update in December 2023, yet 2.2 arrived about a year later and 2.3 followed in July 2025. Each time, the studio found a reason to come back.

For players, that means a game still growing years after its troubled 2020 launch, at a moment when the franchise is expanding beyond games: a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 movie is in the works at Paramount, and the new anime season is likely to bring a wave of lapsed and new players back to Night City.

What it means for players and what comes next

If you already own Cyberpunk 2077, there is nothing to buy: the update simply downloads on Thursday. The best thing to do before then is catch Wednesday's REDstreams, where CD Projekt Red will demonstrate cyberware customization and dual-wielding and should clarify what else is in the package.
