The Amazon Is Officially Returning to Diablo

One of the most iconic classes in Diablo history is coming back.

During BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard confirmed that the Amazon will be the next playable class coming to Diablo IV, bringing back a character archetype many players have known since Diablo II.

The class is scheduled to arrive in the first half of 2027 as Blizzard continues expanding Diablo IV.

The announcement confirms something Diablo fans have been requesting for years:

the Amazon is finally returning to Sanctuary.

Who Is the Amazon in Diablo?

The Amazon is one of the classic classes from Diablo II.

She became known for her ability to switch between very different styles of combat.

Bows and ranged attacks allowed players to eliminate enemies from a distance, while spears and javelins opened the door to more aggressive playstyles.

That versatility helped make the Amazon one of Diablo II's most recognizable classes.

Now, more than two decades later, Blizzard is bringing that fantasy into Diablo IV.

What Will the Amazon Be Like in Diablo IV?

Blizzard describes the returning Amazon as a versatile warrior capable of using several weapons and combat styles.

The class fantasy revolves around weapons including bows, spears and javelins, combining ranged attacks with fast and aggressive combat.

The goal is to preserve the identity players remember from Diablo II while adapting the Amazon to Diablo IV's modern combat and progression systems.

That could create very different builds within a single class.

Bow or Spear? The Amazon Could Support Very Different Builds

This could become one of the most interesting aspects of the class.

Historically, Amazon players could specialize in dramatically different playstyles.

The classic Bowazon, for example, focused on bows and ranged attacks.

The famous Javazon instead relied on javelins and devastating attacks capable of clearing large groups of enemies.

Diablo IV adds considerably more layers to character building through skills, equipment, Legendary Aspects and other progression systems.

That gives Blizzard plenty of room to reinterpret those classic Amazon archetypes.

When Is the Amazon Coming to Diablo 4?

Blizzard has confirmed that the Amazon is planned for the:

first half of 2027.

An exact release date has not yet been announced.

That means there's still plenty to learn about the class, including its full skill tree, unique items, progression systems and potential endgame builds.

We'll update this article when Blizzard reveals additional information.

The Amazon Is Part of Diablo IV's Future

The Amazon announcement arrived during a massive moment for the Diablo franchise.

At BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard also revealed Diablo V, targeting spring 2029, and confirmed that a Diablo animated series is in development with Netflix. Diablo IV itself is also expanding with new seasonal content and its Nintendo Switch 2 release.

That makes one thing increasingly clear:

Diablo IV isn't disappearing just because Diablo V has been announced.

Blizzard still has major plans for the current game.

Diablo IV Is Changing Its Content Strategy

Blizzard also used BlizzCon to discuss how Diablo IV will evolve in the coming years.

The company is placing greater emphasis on ongoing seasonal stories and updates, creating new reasons for players to return to Sanctuary while the broader franchise moves toward Diablo V.

A major new class like the Amazon could play an important role in that strategy.

Instead of simply adding another character option, Blizzard can use the class to introduce new builds, items and progression opportunities across Diablo IV's endgame.

The Amazon Could Become One of Diablo IV's Most Popular Classes

Blizzard has one major advantage when bringing the Amazon back:

the class already has an incredibly strong identity.

Veteran players remember the Bowazon.

They remember the Javazon.

And they remember the Amazon's fast, flexible approach to combat.

At the same time, Diablo IV can introduce that fantasy to an entirely new generation of players.

If Blizzard manages to preserve the class's classic identity while giving it the depth expected from Diablo IV's modern build system, the Amazon has the potential to quickly become one of the game's most popular classes.
