The world of Diablo is about to cross into a new medium.
During BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard announced that it is developing a new Diablo animated series with Netflix.
The production will be set in the world of Diablo, bringing the dark atmosphere of Sanctuary beyond video games and onto the screen.
The project is still in development, and many important details remain under wraps.
But one thing is now official:
Diablo is coming to Netflix.

The Diablo Series Will Be Animated
One of the first major details confirmed about the adaptation is its format.
Instead of a live-action production, Diablo is becoming an animated series.
Blizzard officially describes the project as a new animated series set in the world of Diablo and being developed with Netflix.
The format seems like a natural fit for the franchise.
Diablo's universe is filled with demons, grotesque creatures, supernatural battles, magic and gothic environments that animation could explore without many of the limitations associated with live-action productions.
The Series Will Be Set in Sanctuary
Blizzard hasn't revealed exactly when the story will take place within Diablo's timeline.
What we do know is that the adaptation will be set within the world of Diablo, bringing Sanctuary and its dark mythology into a new medium.
That leaves plenty of possibilities.
The series could explore characters already established in the games, revisit major events from Diablo's history or tell an entirely original story within Sanctuary.
For now, none of those possibilities has been confirmed.

When Will the Diablo Netflix Series Be Released?
There is currently no confirmed release date.
Blizzard and Netflix have announced that the series is in development, but neither company has provided a release window.
Several other details also remain unconfirmed, including:
- episode count;
- episode length;
- voice cast;
- director;
- writers;
- animation studio;
- age rating;
- trailer release.
Any specific release date circulating online should therefore be treated as speculation until Blizzard or Netflix announces it officially.
Will the Series Adapt Diablo IV or Diablo V?
That's one of the biggest questions surrounding the project.
Blizzard hasn't confirmed that the production will directly adapt Diablo IV, Diablo V or any other specific game.
The announcement describes it as a series set in the world of Diablo, leaving room for an original story within the franchise's universe.
That could be particularly interesting because Diablo's mythology extends far beyond the campaigns of the main games.
The Eternal Conflict between the High Heavens and Burning Hells, the creation of Sanctuary, the Prime Evils and countless periods of human history could all provide material for new stories.

Diablo Is Coming to Netflix During a Huge Era for the Franchise
The Netflix announcement didn't happen in isolation.
BlizzCon 2026 marked a major expansion of the Diablo universe.
Alongside the animated series, Blizzard revealed Diablo V, targeting spring 2029, announced the return of the Amazon as a new Diablo IV class for 2027 and confirmed Diablo IV for Nintendo Switch 2.
Together, these announcements suggest Blizzard is thinking about Diablo as something larger than a sequence of video games.
The franchise is entering a new era.
Netflix Already Has Experience With Video Game Adaptations
Netflix is also an interesting home for the project because of the platform's growing history with video game adaptations.
Over the past several years, animated productions based on or inspired by major gaming franchises have demonstrated how effectively game universes can translate into episodic storytelling.
For Diablo, animation could allow the production to preserve fundamental parts of the franchise's visual identity — particularly its violence, creatures, gothic architecture and oppressive atmosphere.
Exactly what artistic direction the Diablo series will take, however, remains unknown.

Could Warcraft and Overwatch Series Come Next?
Another particularly interesting detail emerged around the announcement.
When discussing Diablo, Blizzard president Johanna Faries indicated that the project represents part of the company's broader interest in bringing its franchises to other screens.
She also referenced the communities surrounding Overwatch and Warcraft, while indicating that additional conversations are taking place.
That doesn't mean Warcraft or Overwatch television series have been officially announced.
But it does suggest Blizzard is exploring opportunities beyond Diablo.
If those conversations eventually turn into projects, the Netflix series could represent the beginning of a much larger expansion of Blizzard's franchises into film and television.
Diablo Has More Than Enough Material for a Major Series
Few Blizzard franchises have mythology as naturally suited to serialized storytelling as Diablo.
There's the conflict between the High Heavens and Burning Hells.
There's Sanctuary itself.
There are the Prime Evils.
And there are characters such as Diablo, Mephisto, Baal, Lilith, Inarius, Tyrael and Deckard Cain.
Decades of lore could be explored without simply recreating the events of the games.
The biggest challenge will be transforming that mythology into a story that works both for longtime Diablo players and viewers who have never played the games.
What We Still Don't Know About the Diablo Series
The BlizzCon announcement confirmed that the project exists, but almost everything else is still to come.
Some of the biggest unanswered questions include:
- What will the story be about?
- When will it take place?
- Which characters will appear?
- Will Diablo himself appear?
- Could Lilith, Mephisto or other major characters return?
- Who will be the protagonist?
- Which studio will animate the series?
- How many episodes will there be?
- Who will be in the voice cast?
- When will the first trailer arrive?
- When will the series premiere?
Blizzard says more information will be shared as the series takes shape.
Diablo Is Becoming Bigger Than the Games
For three decades, Diablo has built one of the most recognizable identities in RPGs.
Now Blizzard appears ready to bring Sanctuary to an even larger audience.
An animated series gives the company an opportunity to explore characters, wars and historical periods that might never receive their own game.
And with Diablo V targeting 2029, the franchise is entering one of the most ambitious periods in its history.
We still know very little about the Netflix production.
But after BlizzCon 2026, something that spent years as speculation is finally official:
a Diablo animated series is in development with Netflix.
