Where does GTA 6 take place?

Rockstar has so far highlighted six major destinations:

  • Vice City;
  • Leonida Keys;
  • Grassrivers;
  • Port Gellhorn;
  • Ambrosia;
  • Mount Kalaga National Park.

GTA VI is therefore not simply rebuilding one city.

It's placing that city inside a much broader state.

Several confirmed characters are directly connected with the city.

No.

The official screenshots already demonstrate major environmental differences between its urban, coastal and wilderness locations.

Brian Heder also operates from the region through his boat yard and smuggling business.

Grassrivers

Rockstar currently has six official Grassrivers screenshots in its GTA VI gallery, highlighting it as one of the game's major named locations.

Its presence helps demonstrate that GTA VI's world extends far beyond beaches and city streets.

Grassrivers represents one of Leonida's more natural environments.

Rockstar has dedicated six screenshots to the location and published a Port Gellhorn postcard among GTA VI's official artwork.

Its complete role in the campaign hasn't been explained yet, so it would be premature to make specific claims about what missions or activities it contains.

Ambrosia

Ambrosia has also been officially highlighted as a distinct destination.

Rockstar provides dedicated screenshots and an Ambrosia postcard in its official media library.

That makes it one of the safest locations to include when discussing the confirmed geography of GTA VI.

Mount Kalaga National Park

Rockstar has published six Mount Kalaga screenshots as well as an official postcard for the region.

How many GTA 6 regions are confirmed?

Rockstar currently highlights these six:

Region

Yes

Yes

Grassrivers

Yes

Port Gellhorn

Yes

Ambrosia

Yes

Mount Kalaga National Park

Yes

Each has its own official screenshots, while Rockstar's artwork library also contains individual postcards for all six destinations.

That does not mean GTA VI contains only six areas.

It means these are the destinations Rockstar has chosen to formally highlight so far.

Rockstar has not published official map dimensions.

That matters because fan-made reconstruction projects and size estimates are widely circulated online.

They can be interesting, but they aren't official measurements.

  • total square mileage;
  • exact north-to-south distance;
  • exact number of cities;
  • a numerical size comparison with GTA V;
  • the percentage of enterable interiors.

Until Rockstar provides those figures, any precise map-size claims should be labeled as estimates.

Is GTA 6's map bigger than GTA 5?

We don't have an official numerical answer yet.

We can confidently talk about environmental variety.

We cannot yet confidently give a square-mile comparison.

No.

The official imagery shows a much denser metropolitan environment surrounded by additional regions.

That distinction matters because Rockstar can exaggerate or remix real-world influences without being bound to a literal recreation.

Are there animals and wilderness areas?

Official imagery makes it clear that GTA VI extends well beyond a purely urban setting.

Grassrivers and Mount Kalaga showcase natural environments, while Rockstar's official cover art also incorporates wildlife and aquatic imagery.

The most important takeaway is variety.

So far, Rockstar has presented:

Grassrivers → wilderness and wetlands.

Ambrosia → its own highlighted region.

Mount Kalaga → national park and natural environments.

That gives Rockstar room to design missions, activities and characters around dramatically different areas without leaving the same state.

When does GTA 6 launch?

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Almost certainly more information will arrive as Rockstar continues marketing the game, but we shouldn't treat unrevealed locations as confirmed.

For now, the six officially highlighted destinations give us a clean, reliable foundation.

As Rockstar reveals more, this article should be updated rather than replaced, allowing it to become Players Realm's permanent GTA VI map reference.
